This exotic bird will delight today’s novice needle worker. This is a counted cross stitch adaptation of the crewel work bird on the Punderson Family Bed Curtains attributed to Prudence Geer Punderson.

The Punderson family produced several notable needlewomen in the eighteenth century. In addition to Prudence Geer Punderson, her daughters also produced fine needlework that has survived. Prudence Punderson Rossiter created “The First, Middle, and Last Scenes of Mortality,” most recently on display at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York. A sampler by daughter Hannah Punderson Stanton is on display in the exhibition “Connecticut Needlework” as is a whole cloth quilt attributed to Sylvia Punderson Morgan.
